G.A.E.M. prize awarded

There were 87 entries this year for Giovani Artisti e Mosaico, a competition for young mosaic artists, which is held during the festival Ravenna Mosaico. From the 12 selected works that are exposed until 24th November 2013 in the museum mar, two have been awarded with prizes yesterday.

The Premio Orsoni for the best mosaic executed in traditional technique went to Vene by Takako Hirai. The Premio Banca Popolare for the best experimental mosaic was given to Andrea Poma for his contribution Impressioni.

G.A.E.M. is an art award that aims to promote contemporary mosaic art. Two prizes are awarded: A material prize (Premio Orsoni ) and a cash prize (Premio Banca Popolare). The work of the finalists are shown in an exhibition and published in an exhibition catalog. The topic can be chosen freely by the applicants, which may not be older than 40 years. The work should deal with the constitutive, formal and poetic language of mosaic. The competition is organized by the Art Museum of the city of Ravenna mar and the Center for mosaic documentation in Ravenna with support from the Province of Ravenna and the Emilia Romagna region.
