Mosaic meets 3D printing

3D printing and mosaic make a real good team. It allows you to make complicated shapes according to your own ideas in which tesserae can be placed easily.

My example is a teamwork of my friend and me. He designed and printed the mold and I filled it with pieces of handmade glass I cut with the hammer. Together, we created an F emblem for Flora’s minibike.

Design in the CAD program

I admit, you need the right program and some knowledge in 3D modeling to visualize your own idea. Simple shapes can also be created with less complex tools. Some print service providers also offer the possibility to create the forms directly in their portal.

Print at the service provider

Of course you also need a 3-printer for your own 3D object. There are a lot of service providers, where even individual forms can be created at affordable prices. Depending on the material – metal, plastic, ceramics and many more – the costs vary. 3D printing is a complex topic. But it is worthwhile to take a closer look at it, because there are no limits to creativity once you have understood how it works.
