Together with Rahab Mosaic Art, I am launching an interactive art project that celebrates the diversity and unity of Düsseldorf and its districts. The result will be works of art composed of individually designed mosaic pieces. They will be created by students from various schools, local associations, church organisations, companies (through volunteer days or ‘social days’) and citizens. To this end, we are bringing people from all these institutions together in formats that will have an impact.
Why we started this project
Every day, we hear and read on the radio, on social media and in newspapers about how our society is becoming increasingly divided. How can we create positive visions again? How can we manage to live values such as togetherness, compassion and solidarity? Each and every one of us can live these values in our daily interactions.
The ‘FürImmerBunt’ project aims to convey a central message: openness, tolerance and charity are the cornerstones of our city – hatred and exclusion have no place here. We will not allow our democracy to be taken away from us.
How people get involved
Mosaics are inherently unifying because it takes many hands to create a large surface. In our increasingly digital world, creating a mosaic with people from different backgrounds is a concrete experience that instils pride, fosters identification with the city and its neighbourhoods, and teaches new skills. Much of the work can be prepared in advance, with 2 to 4 people working on one section, for example, which is then joined together later to form a large mosaic. The entire process, from developing ideas, preparing materials and sticking them down to grouting, requires cooperation. And when everyone involved stands in front of the finished mosaic and recognises their own pieces, it’s guaranteed to give you goosebumps.
Overview of our planned acitivities
We plan small and large activities for each school half-year, which are implemented in cooperation with schools and other educational institutions, associations and companies. We develop all ideas together with the people involved in order to create the highest possible level of identification with the projects and the neighbourhood.

P1: Pavement for pavement – We fill cracks in asphalt and concrete with mosaics
Where are there cracks in the cityscape? We track them down and fill them with Street Mosaic. Because it shows so well that everyone can do something to prevent our society from becoming divided.
2 people per patch

P2: Mosaic seating – Take a break and strike up a conversation
Mosaics can also be created in three dimensions: we build seating for your neighbourhood. Colourful, of course! They create space for interaction, relaxation and positive thinking.
Per seat 20 – 30 people

P3: Graffiti meets mosaic wall – your values in a big way
Grey walls in the cityscape are becoming colourful! With a combination of graffiti and mosaic. We develop the idea together and show with lots of colourful stones and bright colours that hatred and agitation have no place here.
Per wall 60 – 80 people
Support us: Crowdfunding campaign for our first sub-project in the north of Düsseldorf
In 2025, we will set our first focus: in Düsseldorf Rath, Unterrath and Mörsenbroich – including a mosaic wall at the Rather Family Centre. The city of Düsseldorf already supports the project through its cultural office, and the family centre is a close local partner.
With your support, we bring together people who would otherwise never have met. You are not only promoting art in public spaces, but also community, encounters and a vibrant, diverse democracy. Your contribution enables us to purchase materials, run workshops, design spaces and coordinate volunteers. In this way, we are transforming grey corners into lively places – designed by the neighbourhood for the neighbourhood.
Whether 10, 50 or 1,000 euros – every donation enables creative workshops, genuine encounters and a visible sign of solidarity and democracy.
If more money is raised, we will use it for further sub-projects in 2026 and 2027 – earmarked for FürImmerBunt, of course.
Become part of a project that will last and show that our city is ‘FürImmerBunt’.
Volunteering: Become part of our project!
Would you like to help us on site? We can use support with workshops, installations, PR, social media and much more! Just send us an enquiry with your motivation, time per week and time period so that we can better understand how you can help us. Experience with mosaics is a plus, but not necessary. You will learn everything ‘on the job’ from us.
Spread the love: Booking ‘FürImmerBunt’ events
Schools, educational institutions, companies, local associations, church organisations and other interested parties can book our formats and implement them on their own premises. Just send me an informal request:
