But one of the trio CaCO3 was missing. During the festival Ravenna Mosaico, at the opening of their solo exhibition Soffio, finally there were all three of them. So they told me about their formation at the school of mosaic restoration in Ravenna and how they came to create their own mosaic grammar. If you want to know more about their work, check out their blog.

CaCO3 was founded in 2006 by Aniko Ferreira da Silva (1976, Ravenna, Italy), Giuseppe Donnaloia (1976, Martina Franca, Italy) and Pavlos Mavromatidis (1979, Kavala, Greece). The name of the group is also the chemical formula of calcium carbonate, the same material used in the mosaic surfaces of the collective CaCO3. For their work the three artists cut thousands of those pieces in always the same shapes. These tesserae are set in different inclinations. This results in structures that remind underwater worlds moved by the sea, magnetic fields or fields of corn blown by the wind.
[mappress mapid=”13″]

The trio tells about its formation at the school of mosaic restoration in Ravenna and how their own mosaic grammar was born.

[125
1230
post-5980","post","type-post","status-publish","format-video","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-people","tag-ravenna-en","post_format-post-format-video","post-item","post-even
["GET
