How strange\u00a0life is. A dear friend of mine, on her stop-off\u00a0to meet me in Blaye<\/a>, walks through Paris and strolls into an artists’ house on\u00a0Rue du Rivoli. <\/em>She\u00a0<\/em>meets Luigi La Ferla<\/strong>, whose figurative and very expressionist work you may\u00a0know from Chartres<\/em> or from the last Ravenna Mosaico<\/em> exhibition. After her arrival in the south,\u00a0she shows me some photos she had taken that day, telling me “And then I meet that guy who\u00a0works like you, with the mosaic\u00a0hammer and\u00a0that\u00a0special\u00a0glass!” A few weeks later, I walk up the stairs\u00a0of the colorful building\u00a0in the middle of the French capital with my video camera, curious to know more about his work.<\/p>\n

On six\u00a0floors of 59 Rivoli<\/a>, a formerly occupied house\u00a0in the 1st arrondissement<\/em>, artists from different sectors and\u00a0origins from all over the world have their place to work. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of creators and visitors, La Ferla welcomes me\u00a0and tells me about his way of working\u00a0\u2013 between a small session on the piano he gives in the room next door.<\/p>\n

Luigi’s roots lie in painting, both regarding\u00a0his origins (his father is a painter) and his own development: the native Sicilian studied Renaissance painting in Florence, then came into contact with mosaic making in Ravenna and finally studied at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli<\/em>. His work results from a creative process that combines\u00a0music, writing, painting and mosaic making and\u00a0bring out a\u00a0very personal story.<\/p>\n

PS: The mosaic\u00a0on which he is\u00a0working in the video\u00a0interview was\u00a0an order for a French winemaker and represents Luigi’s view of the process\u00a0from grape harvesting to the final champagne.
