At the Art Fair in Cologne<\/a> this year, I discovered his chalk work and became curious. Someone who works with such material surely\u00a0is\u00a0interested in other unusual materials, I thought. <\/span><\/p>\n

My curiosity was rewarded. Reiner Seliger (1943, L\u00f6wenberg \/ Silesia, now Poland) creates space installations and sculptures made of brick, concrete, Yton, Styrofoam and more. He\u00a0transforms hard, coarse material into feather-like appearance, thereby gaining a new aesthetic from everyday life. <\/span><\/p>\n

On the occasion of the exhibition Aufbruch<\/em> at the Museum Biedermann<\/em> in Donaueschingen, the artist said in an interview: <\/span><\/p>\n

I am interested in the natural character of the material. The core of my work has been brick for years, then other natural stones such as marble, glass, now styrofoam and chalk. I prefer to work with architecture or landscape. My sculptures are supposed to achieve a consistency with the space. I try to build another world to the daily visible in the form of effective images and forms. This is a very poetic process which is difficult to describe in words. I take everyday materials and create a different world from the everyday. It is like an attempt to draw from the state of being that gives me the possibility to slip into a kind of dream world. This is beyond words.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
