Roses and rosettes

Very cool: I have started my next project in direct technique. A Roman rosette. I love the Giallo Reale, a natural stone in royal yellow, with its rose-colored shades. And try my best creating proper andamenti. These are the lines that specify how each stone is cut and placed in the mosaic. How the stones are formed in these guide lines changes very strongly the impression of a mosaic. I’ll write a more detailed article about different types of andamenti soon.

I’m a bit tired today and leave you with this short report this week. Happy weekend to all of you!

    Dear Miriam,

After having read your article about using the martellina, I would love to hear what you have to say about different types of andamenti. Thanks again for all these posts. This has got to be one of the best descriptions of the didactic process for mosaic anywhere on the internet.

Dear Justin, thank you for your kind words and your suggestion! I want to focus more on tutorials and general guidelines regarding mosaics this year and have already planned an article series treating andamenti. I will let you know when it’s online! Cheers, Miriam
